Kerala continues to report a surge in covid cases, as 37,199 new covid cases were confirmed today. The test positivity rate is at 24.88 percent. Also, 49 Covid deaths have been reported taking the death toll to 5,308. Presently over three lakh active covid cases are there in the State.
While briefing the media Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan mentioned that if the covid situation in the state gets worsened in the upcoming days, the state may consider the option of imposing a complete lockdown. However, as of now, strict control measures similar to lockdown will be imposed throughout the state inorder to curb the unprecedented spread of the pandemic. Stringent measures will be imposed throughout the state from coming Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the High Court has ruled that no public gatherings and crowding will be allowed in the state for four days from tomorrow. No election victory demonstrations or rallies should be carried out on May 2, the vote counting day. The HC has directed State Police and the district administrations to ensure that strict regulations are being followed in this regard.
