Maharashtra insists that it will allow 25 passenger flights to operate to and fro

With a fresh spike of over 3000 Coronavirus cases recorded across Maharashtra, the State crosses 50000-mark in COVID-19 infections on Sunday.
The State health department shares that 3,041 fresh coronavirus cases were reported in Maharashtra taking the tally to 50,231 in the State that also include 58 fatalities soaring the death score to 1635. To be further precise there are presently 33,988 active Coronavirus cases in Maharashtra as a total of 14,600 patients are discharged thus far.
Maharashtra retains to be the worst-hit State in the country with Mumbai as a central hotspot for the virus spread. The capital city alone reports 1,725 positive cases on Monday accounting for 30,542 all over cases in the region. It eventually leads death cases with 988 at its credit, of which 39 recorded in the last 24 hours.
Led by circumstantial compulsion Maharashtra on Sunday insists that it will allow 25 passenger flights, with an Indigo Airlines flight from Jaipur to be the first, to take off from and as many to land in Mumbai since Monday, as there is an unwarranted steady rise in cases across the State. The number will ‘increase slowly’, says NCP leader Nawab Malik and reveals that the guidelines in this regard soon.

The decision came following Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, saying to the reporter that starting from May 25, Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) should initiate minimum possible domestic and slowly plan and fine-tunes the airport operations.

According to the Maharashtra CMO's tweet, Uddhav Thackeray directed aviation minister Hardeep Singh, Puri, that only those domestic flights which are purely necessary should only be allowed to operate.
"Till the time MIAL (Mumbai International Airport Limited) plans and fine-tunes the airport operations, the aviation ministry should initiate minimum possible domestic flights from Maharashtra from May 25th, which are purely emergent in nature like for international transfer of passengers, medical emergencies, students, and cases on compassionate grounds," the tweet said.
Same Uddhav-led Government was sceptical about resuming flight operation from the State, especially in Mumbai, last Saturday, playing along with the Centre’s decision, and was stern to abide by the lockdown extension till May 31.
Maharashtra maintains that Centre’s decision to resume flight operation was “arbitrary", and was made with no consultation with the State.
Govt insists that it needs time to decide on the Standard Operating Protocols (SOP) over air travel.
