Maintain digital health care records systematically for free with DRiefcase

The healthcare market in India is expected to reach US$ 372 billion by 2022, driven by rising income, better health awareness, lifestyle diseases, and increasing access to insurance. The frequency of various ailments makes it a sensible idea to keep track of medical records and DRiefcase excels in that abundantly.

DRiefcase is a health-tech startup that digitizes personal health records and provides patients with single-point, easy-to-use access to their medical data through a mobile app. The records are stored securely, available instantly, and can be accessed from anywhere.

More about DRiefcase

Above 95% of medical records are stored physically, often misplaced during the time of need. DRiefcase is a secured platform that helps manage all medical records digitally all in one place in a very easy-to-use manner. It is India’s first PHR app (Personal Health record) that has been integrated into the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, a mission launched by the Government of India.

Sohit Kapoor, the Co-Founder of DRiefcase states “Everyone takes care of their health, but not everyone takes care of health records. In 8 out of 10 times, either people are not able to access their records or it takes them a lot of time, so much so that it unnecessarily adds to the stress. Since everything is going digital, then why should medical records not follow the same. That was the thesis behind DRiefcase.”

USP of DRiefcase

Sohit Kapoor, the Co-Founder of DRiefcase states “DRiefcase looks at health history in a comprehensive manner. DRiefcase aids in the digitization of health records with 100% seriousness. It has multiple ways to upload records digitally. Whatsapp, Email, Clicking a picture and uploading are the various ways to upload. The biggest difference is that DRiefcase can pick health records from the customer’s place. People don't have the time or the enthusiasm to upload health records. It is very important to handhold the user to get the work started. Over time, a lot of health records are going to be generated digitally, so this problem over time will start solving by itself. The storage of medical records or handling of medical history is a part of DNA. We work on prioritizing patient needs.”

Impact of ABDM on people and DRiefcase

Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission is a digital framework. Healthcare will be undergoing change unlike anything else in the last 70 to 75 years. There is no centralized authority with regard to the healthcare journey. In India, the healthcare journey is very fragmented. Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission brings about digitalization in an inter-operable manner. As a patient, they have an entire longitudinal history easily accessible on the app. Once the ABHA address is created, and all records are linked to it, immediately those records come on DRiefcase.

Scan at home facility offered by DRiefcase

Sohit Kapoor, the Co-Founder of DRiefcase states “We are not saying that your health journey starts today, we are saying your health journey starts the day you are born or the day from which you can give us your healthcare information and we will make sure that becomes a part of your longitudinal health history.”

DRiefcase focuses on creating use cases that make life easy. Even Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission intends to make life easy for people in urban and rural areas. After scanning 100 to 200 at the patient’s house and keeping it neatly stacked and indexed, the next time the patient may get motivated to upload the health records all by themselves.

Revenues earned by DRiefcase

The basic DRiefcase app will remain free for life. As long as the people upload records, retrieve records, create ABHA addresses and give consent by themselves the app will remain free. Multiple players in the ecosystem need to connect to Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. There are 2 parts to the business modules of DRiefcase

The first part is there are 2 million doctors and 70,000 large and small hospitals falling apart from the insurance network - ROHINI (Registry of Hospitals in Network of Insurance). 65 candidates presently have managed to get integrated with Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. Currently, 1000 businesses are attempting to integrate with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. Currently, 65 candidates have been integrated with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. Currently, the timeline for integration with Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission is 9-12 months and with the help of DRiefcase the timeline comes down to 4-6 weeks. So that becomes a strong monetizable model as DRiefcase is improving the go-to-market time as they are releasing expensive tech resources in terms of time and money. 2 Partners are already at the final stages of integration.

Moreover, the second part is that the government started a Unified health interface(UHI) for democratizing healthcare medicines. DRiefcase would look to connect to the UHI and provide a gateway for patients. DRiefcase shares all health information if a patient needs access to health services. When such services get consumed in a privacy-compliant manner. If the patient chooses to do these services then, the monetization model is built.

Goals and future expansion plans of DRiefcase

The B2B and B2C sectors are both quite important. On the B2C side, the idea is to keep enriching the DRiefcase app making it more meaningful, whereas on the B2B side the main aim will be the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission connector.

Experience that can be derived from the DRiefcase journey

Seize opportunities and develop problem-solving skills along the way as you continue to learn.
