A Ketogenic diet, which provides 99% calories from fat and protein, and only 1% from carbs, may give you amazing results in the short term, but if taken regularly over a period of one week, it can have negative effect on the body.
According to a study published in the journal Nature Metabolism, the Ketogenic diet, could over a limited period of time, improve health by lowering the risk of diabetes and inflammation. When body’s glucose level is reduced, due to diet’s low carb content, the acts as if it’s in a state of starvation. It begins to burn fat.
This process give rise to chemicals called ketone bodies. When the body burns ketone bodies, tissue protective gamma delta T-cells expand throughout the body. This reduces diabetes risk and inflammation. But when this low-carb diet is continued over a period of one week, they consume more fat than they can burn. This results in diabetes and obesity.
