Maharashtra Medical Council  (MMC)  in order to avoid forgery and tampering of certificatess has decided to issue registration certificates having individual QR codes  which will be delivered online.

MMC requested existing members to provide their e-mail-IDs so that online database could be updated and all will get online certificate with QR code henceforth. MMC has registered and renewed 92,908 doctors as on March 2019.

After passing out doctors need to renew the certification every five years to continue their practice. However, in several instances it was found that MMC certificates were tampered with false information. MMC has caught 105 such cases in last five years.

Digitization of MMC started  last year with the launch of a mobile application helping citizens to check the qualifications of physicians. Citizens can also file complaints on the platform, earlier certificates were delivered by post but due to growing complaints from the doctors about not reciving their certificates MMC has decided to switch on to online delivery.
