Health benefits of Olive oil

Olive oil is rich in healthy fats – Around 14% of total oil is monounsaturated, the oleic fatty acid, and 11% is polyunsaturated fats (omega 3 and 6 fatty acids). Monounsaturated fatty acid is healthy. Monounsaturated fats are quite resistant to high heat, making extra virgin olive oil a healthy choice for cooking.

Possess high antioxidants – Extra virgin olive oil is highly nutritious. Apart from this, it also contains a good amount of vitamin E and K. This reduces the risk of chronic diseases and protects blood cholesterol from oxidation. In a way, protect against heart disease, liver, and cholesterol.

Possess properties of anti-inflammatory - Extra-virgin olive oil can reduce inflammation, which may be one of the main reasons for its health benefits. Chronic inflammation is one of the main drivers of diseases, such as cancer, heart disease, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s, arthritis and even obesity.

Olive oil for the heart - It lowers inflammation, protects “bad” LDL cholesterol from oxidation, improves the lining of your blood vessels and may help prevent excessive blood clotting. It has also been shown to lower blood pressure, which is one of the strongest risk factors for heart disease and premature death.

Olive oil doesn’t cause weight gain and obesity - Consuming olive oil does not appear to increase the likelihood of weight gain. Moderate intake may even aid weight loss.

Olive oil for rheumatoid arthritis - Olive oil can help reduce joint pain and swelling in individuals with rheumatoid arthritis. The beneficial effects get greatly increased if mixed with fish oil.

Olive oil reduces the risk of diabetes - Both observational studies and clinical trials suggest that olive oil, combined with a Mediterranean diet, can reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes.

Olive oil prevents stroke – Stroke is the second leading cause of death in developed nations. A stroke is caused by a disturbance of blood flow to your brain, either due to a blood clot or bleeding. Studies have revealed that people who consume olive oil are at a much lower risk of stroke.

Fights Alzheimer’s disease – Alzheimer’s is a neurodegenerative disease. Some studies suggest that olive oil may combat Alzheimer’s disease, but more research is needed.

Extra virgin olive oil is the healthier one among all forms available. Its antioxidant properties make it a healthier one. Choose your extra virgin olive oil wisely while doing grocery shopping as a lot of adulterated oils are being sold under the name of extra virgin. Read the ingredient label carefully and check for quality certification.
