Persistent genital arousal disorder (PGAD) is seen exclusively in females, and is characterised by spontaneous and unwanted sexual arousal which is not related to desire. This can damage relationship with partners and throw you into the abyss of depression.
The results from the study conducted by researchers of Massachusetts General Hospital, clearly shows that PGAD can be caused by alteration of the firing nerves that are known to carry sensations from the genitalia or by damaged caused to the lowest part of the spinal cord. The study further states that the problem can be troublesome for adolescents and can cause shame, confusion and fear.
No psychiatric or gynecological treatment is effective because the problem is neurological in nature. Neurological treatments like treating nerve damage and spinal-nerve-root cyst removal were effective 80% of the patients, said the study.
