Chennai, 4 November 2026: SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, through its Division of Medical Research, inaugurated the National Conference on Translational Regenerative Biology and Bioengineering (TRBB 2026). The three-day national conference, being held from November 3 to 5, 2026, aims to bring together leading researchers, clinicians, academicians, industry professionals and students to explore emerging developments in regenerative medicine, biomedical engineering and translational healthcare research.

The conference provides a multidisciplinary platform for scientific exchange, knowledge sharing and collaborative research, with a focus on emerging areas such as tissue regeneration, stem cell biology, biomaterials, organoids, lab-on-a-chip technologies and theranostics.

The inaugural programme brought together distinguished academicians, researchers and scientific experts from premier institutions across the country. The conference features keynote lectures, invited talks, workshops, poster presentations and flash talks, offering participants opportunities to engage with experts, present their research findings and explore potential academic and research collaborations.

“The future of healthcare lies in collaborative research, bringing together clinicians, biologists, engineers, and researchers to transform scientific discoveries into meaningful improvements in human health.” – Dr. R. Jayanthi, Dean (Medical), SRMMCHRC highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary biomedical research, institutional commitment to research excellence and the role of translational research in advancing healthcare.

“The ultimate goal of scientific research is to translate discoveries into better treatments for people suffering from diseases and injuries. Bridging the gap between basic science and clinical practice is essential to advancing healthcare and improving human lives.” – Dr. Sunil K. Narayan, Dean Research (MHS) and Convener, TRBB 2026. This underscores TRBB 2026’s vision of fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and translating scientific discoveries into real-world healthcare solutions.

Prof. Sarit Kumar Das, V. Balakrishnan Chair, IIT Madras, emphasised that the human body is nature’s finest engineering marvel, stating, “Whatever an engineer tries to design is already present in the human body, in a much better way.” Echoing the importance of bridging scientific innovation with clinical practice, Dr. Joy Varghese, Director & HOD, Hepatology & Transplant Hepatology, Gleneagles Hospital, Chennai, highlighted that “The future of healthcare lies in turning scientific discoveries into life-changing treatments. Regenerative biology and bioengineering offer exciting possibilities to transform medicine. Let us bring science and clinical practice together to create innovations that truly make a difference to human lives.”

The conference features eminent speakers from reputed institutions, including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), CSIR laboratories and other leading research organisations. The keynote speakers include Prof. Suman Chakraborty, IIT Kharagpur, and Prof. Sarit Kumar Das, V. Balakrishnan Chair, IIT Madras.

TRBB 2026 also places particular emphasis on encouraging young researchers and students by providing opportunities to interact with established scientists and gain exposure to advanced research methodologies.

Through this national conference, the Division of Medical Research at SRMIST reaffirms its commitment to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, promoting innovation and strengthening the biomedical research ecosystem. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between fundamental scientific discoveries and their practical applications in healthcare, contributing to future advancements in regenerative biology and bioengineering.
