On November 15th, 2022, the world is witnessing a significant rise in population. We have crossed a major milestone in human development as the human race continues to double up at a significant scale. The world population has crossed the mark of 8 billion today after 11 years.
As per research, In 2009, the world population was 7 billion people, and just passing a decade, we have crossed the 8 billion milestones. The UN has announced the world’s population has hit the 8 billion target in just 11 years. There has been a major surge in the second half of the 20th century with population growth.
The Day of 8 Billion
The day of 8 billion is a major milestone in human history. This day falls on Tuesday, November 5th, 2022. It is the day which marks the history of the world population which is crossed the 8 billion mark. This project was revealed by the United Nations World Population Prospectus 2022. The prospectus was released on World Population Day which fell on July 11th, 2022. This definitely engaged person in looking at the population growth and figures at high rise this year.
United Nations announces the 8 billion mark
Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General quoted this year post the population growth about crossing the milestone mark. He stated that - “It is an occasion to celebrate diversity and advancements while considering humanity’s shared responsibility for the planet.
Further estimated growth of global population in future
It has been witnessed worldwide that the global population has taken 12 years to cross from the 7 billion to the 8 billion mark. It is estimated that it will take approximately 15 years to reach to 9 billion mark. This is estimated to be seen in the year 2037. Yes, the growth rate is expected to decline in coming years considering the faster pace in this year 2022 which is seen a major upsurge in population growth.
The most populous region
In 2022, the two most populous regions were both in Asia which comprises Eastern and South-Eastern Asia hitting a major figure of 2.3 billion. Another part of Asia that is highly populated is Central and Southern Asia with 2.1 billion. These figures are seen for this year.
The most populous country
China and India contribute towards the major part of population growth. It has been witnessed that China and India have more than 1.4 billion people each which is the highest as compared to other countries. Moreover, each of these countries accounts for most of the world’s population in the Asian region.
Highest populated countries estimated in 2050
More than half of the projected increase in global population up to 2050 will be concentrated in just eight countries which are as follows-
