6 Common summer ailments and their preventive measures

Bacterial, viral, and parasitic infections are so common in summers and can cause life-threatening problems. Here are a few of them along with their preventive measures.

Summers have started and we all are excited to pack our bags for vacations. Besides this excitement, summer brings a lot of health problems too. Heatstroke, loo, dehydration can be a challenge to deal with. Here are some common summer ailments and their preventive tips. 

HeatstrokeHeatstroke is overheating of the body. One may experience excessive sweat, headache, dizziness, restlessness, and fainting. To prevent this, avoid going out in the direct sun from 11 AM - 4 PM. This is the time when heat is at its peak. If you need to step out, use a stole or scarf to cover your face and body.

Typhoid – This is because of bacterial infection and is very common. High fever, weakness, constipation, etc are the common signs of it. Vaccination is available for typhoid. There are two types of vaccines– one in the form of an injection to kill the bacteria and another in the form of a pill or medicine to weaken the typhoid bacteria.

Food poisoning – Cooked food if not stored properly, can lead to bacterial growth. You must store cooked food in the refrigerator. Try to consume freshly prepared food. This will prevent food poisoning

Measles – Measles is also very common in summer. The best way to prevent this virus is to take MMR Vaccination. The vaccination can be given to adults as well as children between 6-13 months if they are at risk of catching measles.

Jaundice – It is mainly caused due to consuming contaminated food and water. Light-colored stool, dark urine, yellow eyes are some of the common signs of it. It is good to have home-cooked food, and RO filtered mineral water.

Chickenpox - It can easily spread through cough and sneezing. In order to prevent this infection, follow hand hygiene, sanitize your hands thoroughly, avoid contact with the person infected with the disease, and take vaccination at the earliest.
