Google Fit Mobile App’s New Wellness Feature

It has been announced by Google that with the use of machine learning technique, readings of respiratory and heart rate of people can get recorded straight from smartphone cameras.

The new feature of Google Fitness App is slated to get launched pretty soon in all Pixel devices and later on to version 6 of Android devices. The users will be able to get guidance prompts on which way to position the camera for most accurate recordings of respiratory and heart rate.

Getting respiratory rate reading would be like taking a portrait selfie so that the head along with the upper torso is visible in the front facing camera. This whole procedure of recording the reading would take approximately 30 seconds only.

For heart rate reading the users would be required to face the camera on the tips of their fingers. No additional hardware other than the smart phone would be required and Google assures that the error rate would be less than 2%. Users of the app would also be able to see a summary of their recent reading if they choose to save it. This app would be effective across all skin colours and lighting conditions.
