Our Ayurveda recommends the practice of Shatkarmas or six actions. These six actions are meant to clean and detox your body. One of the techniques is Jal Neti. Jal Neti performs the most important task of cleansing. It cleanses and gets rid of any blockage present inside your nose. This allows you to breathe more freely while you are doing yoga. Jal Neti is a way to cleanse your nasal passage and maintain nasal hygiene. It should be done daily to reap the most benefit.

How to do it?

To perform Jal Neti one would need a jal neti pot or jal neti lota. A copper Jal neti lota is the most effective. Fill the pot with water and add a little salt to it. Salt is useful to clear out any mucus or dirt from the nasal passage. The proportion of water and salt is 1 litre of water and 1 tsp of salt.

Stand straight and bend your back forward. Insert the nozzle in your nose and breathe through your mouth. Tilt the nozzle to let the saltwater run through your nasal passage and come out of the other side. Repeat the same with the other nostril. After completing the process, blow your nose aggressively. Try and get rid of all water present inside the nose.

Benefits

This ancient Ayurvedic practice comes with many benefits. Because it cleanses your nasal passage, it gets rid of colds, sinuses and other allergies. It can also help in asthma, bronchitis and pneumonia. People who suffer from frequent migraines and headaches can get relief. It also claims to increase the blood flow between the left and right hemispheres of the brain. Above all, Jal Neti can help you fight anxiety and depression as it makes more blood flow in your head. Many have also recommended Jal Neti to be used against gaining immunity against Covid.
