How to know if your bones are not healthy?

Some things have to be taken care of for healthy bones. Let us know what causes the bones to become weak and brittle.

Modern lifestyle, hectic life, stress, unhealthy diet, etc. have made our bones unhealthy along with other health problems and result in complaints like backache, backache, osteoporosis, and bone loss at a young age.

If one has to keep healthy, then care has to be taken from an early age.

Some things have to be taken care of for healthy bones. Some important things are  -

Bone absorption and new bone formation

Throughout our lifetime, our body absorbs old bones and forms new bones. As long as there is a balance between new and old bones in our body, our bones remain healthy and strong. The problem starts when new bones are not formed as fast as the old bones are absorbed.

Bone loss and weak bones

Sometimes bone loss happens without any reason. This also happens due to genetic reasons. - Weak bones break easily, sometimes without falling or without any injury. As we age, our body absorbs these minerals instead of keeping calcium and phosphate in the bones. Due to this, our bones start getting weak. When this process reaches a certain level, then that condition is called osteoporosis.

Women are at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis after the age of 50 and men after the age of 70. Decreased estrogen levels during menopause in women can be the cause of bone loss, while in men a drop in testosterone levels can lead to unhealthy bones.

How to know if your bones are not healthy?

If you often have joint pain, even a slight push can lead to fractures, then it means that you are in the risk zone. In such a situation, you should immediately meet the doctor and get your complete checkup done. Your doctor will get your bone density test done, which will know how much bone loss you have.

After this, the doctor will ask you to take the necessary medicines and precautions.

Reasons affecting bone health -

A low calcium diet means poor bone density, weakened bones, and a higher chance of fractures. People who are not active have a higher risk of developing osteoporosis than people who are active.  Tobacco and alcohol consumption also affects bone health. It has been proved from research that the use of tobacco weakens bones, similarly consuming two alcoholic drinks daily increases the risk of osteoporosis, because alcohol affects the body's ability to absorb calcium.  Heredity can also be a major cause of osteoporosis. If your parents or siblings have osteoporosis, then your chances of getting it also increase. Women are more prone to osteoporosis than men. Apart from this, increasing age, and being excessively lean can also be the reason for this. Increased thyroid hormone also affects bone health.  Consumption of some medicines also makes bones weak.
