Twisting adage, an HR expert says, ‘Where there is a skill, there is a way’ and that is the way up the corporate career ladder. MNCs are things of the past. GCCs in India are going to be new hubs for top talent and sources for employment of fresh grads: HR experts

Hyderabad, June 15, 2024 — A half-day HR Conclave focusing on Future-Forward Engineering held at VJIT (Vidya Jyothi Institute of Technology), near Appa Junction, Chilkur Road, in the city on Saturday.

Titled Beacon 2024, the HR Conclave was organized in partnership with WOW HR. WoW HR is a not-for-profit organisation intended to create a WoW factor among HR Fraternities and the Student community through Skill development.

Speaking at the inaugural function Dr. E. Sai Baba Reddy, Principal of VJIT said the industry-academia interface is the way forward and this conclave is the right step in that direction. I hope students and faculty will benefit immensely.

Krithivasan S from WOW HR, guest of honour, an HR influencer, career analyst, and HR advisor said WoW HR is a one-year-old trust founded by HR professionals for HR professionals. We focus on the segment of Skill Development which supports individuals to enhance their professional development and develop future leaders.

The inaugural was followed by a fireside chat on the Future of work in engineering.  It was moderated by M Venkata Chalapathy, Sr Director & Head HR Virtusa.

Setting the tone for the chat, he said recessions are part of the industry’s journey. Recession,  as you know is a period of temporary economic decline when trade and industrial activity are reduced. It is a trend that happens every two years. Fittest survive in such a scenario and you should be recession-proof. You do not worry much about it. The best way to navigate such a scenario is to prepare and get the right exposure, he added

Debashish Ghosh, Sr VP and Head HR, Berkadia Group, one of the two panellists of Fire Chat said  job aspirants are currently reading the wrong side of the news of how many employees in IT are being laid off. And that number is just 2%. The Good news is that the balance 98% of employees are not laid off, because of their skills. So, the good adage ‘where there is a will, there is a way’ now gets modified as ‘where there is a skill, there is a way’.

Dr Reena Das, CHRO, Keolls, Hyderabad Metro spoke about T-shape skills, in which she described the vertical line representing expertise, discipline and knowledge of a chosen field, and the horizontal line representing cross-discipline competencies and the ability to collaborate with professionals.

She stressed self-aware strengths clarity of thought and communication with impact are very crucial.

Intervening,  the moderator said, it is important to fail and it is also important to learn quickly from failures and bounce back. So better have an appetite for failure.

Adding more Ghosh said, it is you, who is responsible for getting job or not. So better be job ready. At the same time, the talented must also be good in their communication skills. This one skill sets you apart in the crowd.

Two panel discussions were held.  One panel focused on Guiding GenZ - Power of Coaching, and the other one was Empowering Students: Navigating Disruptive Technology.

Your aim to work should be Global Capability Centres (GCCs). MNCs (Multi-National Companies) are things of the past and GCCs in India are the new goldmine for top talent and fresh Engineering and Management Graduates. So, build long-term capabilities observed  Panelists in the discussion

India has emerged as a prime destination for Global Capacity centres, boasting over 1,580 GCCs with an installed talent base of over 1.66 million and an expected talent requirement of over 4 million jobs, they added.
