In Karnataka 10,913 new Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday taking the tally to 6,90,269. At the same time, 9,091 people recovered and were discharged from various hospitals in the State. So far 5,61,619 people have recovered from the disease. 1,18,851 active patients are taking treatment in various hospitals across the State among them 873 are in ICU. 114 covid patients lost their lives and the total fatalities have gone up to 9,789. The State conducted 1,09,980 covid tests yesterday and the total number of tests have gone up to 57,39,530. Among the new cases, Bengaluru reported with 5,009, followed by Mysuru 826, Hassan 489, Davangere 450 and Chitradurga with 418. In view of the Covid pandemic, the world-famous Mysuru Dasara festival will be celebrated with all precautions from October 17 to 26. The public will not be allowed and the celebrations will be virtual for them. The opening and Jamboo safari on the 10th day will be celebrated in a simple manner with all precautions. Cultural programmes in the evening for 8 days shall be limited to two hours per day by local artists and the audience not exceeding 50 people. During jamboo safari only 300 persons will be allowed with all Covid precaution. It can be noted that Mysuru district has the highest Covid caseload after Bengaluru with 7467 active cases.

In Tamilnadu, more than 95 thousand people underwent the Covid-19 tests on a single day yesterday. It has taken the total number of tests so far to nearly 81.42 lakh. 5185 people were confirmed positive for the virus in the last 24 hours. The total infections have mounted 6.46 lakh while the recoveries have soared up to nearly 5.92 lakh. Chennai continues to report more cases of Covid-19 as compared to the other districts in Tamil Nadu, reflecting its huge population. However, as a positive indicator, the case doubling time in the city has gone up to an average of 93 days when all its 15 zones are taken together. Meanwhile, the Chennai Corporation has reintroduced the concept of containment zones recently. Those clusters like a street or a bunch of contiguous streets having three or more index cases are declared as containment zones. Index cases are those who do not know from where they got the infection. If five or more new patients with known contact history are reported from a particular area, that is also considered as a containment zone. Currently, 70 such containment zones are there in the city. In such places, infection control measures are being undertaken in a more stringent manner.

Kerala continues to report a surge in Covid cases as it confirmed, 9,250 positive cases today. 8,048 recoveries were also reported in the State, which is the highest single-day recovery recorded so far. Meanwhile, 25 deaths were also confirmed today due to Covid, taking the death toll in the state to 955. The active covid cases in Kerala rose to 91,756.
