Bareilly health department has submitted a report to the state government stating that 91 doctors posted in government hospitals, community health centers, and primary health centers in Bareilly have not reported to duty for the past few years.
According to the report submitted, there are 866 posts of doctors in Bareilly division. Of these 488 ‘working’ while 379 posts are lying vacant. Out of 488 doctors working in government, 91 are on long leave. Of the total 379 posts lying vacant in Bareilly, 39 were created as the concerned doctors had resigned.
The authorities believe that these 91 doctors, few of which have been absent for more than five years, are working in private hospitals, or in some other cities. They have not resigned from their posts therefore their names still figure in the records.
The absence of doctors is adding pressure to a system which is already reeling under shortage of government doctors.
