Caffeine containing beverages can actually work like a catalyst to weight loss and cholesterol control, says study.

If you are coffee and tea lover, and looking to reduce weight, here’s a good news. According to a study conducted by University of Illinois, USA, these caffeinated beverages can g a long way in achieving weight loss besides helping you shake off your morning drowsiness.

Now you may not think twice before having a second go at coffee and tea as it is found that consumption of caffeine actually controls weight gain and keeps cholesterol level under check by blunting the effects of a diet containing high sugar and fats.

An experiment conducted on rats revealed that the rats that were administered caffeine dosages and tea along with a diet high in carbs and low on protein  for four weeks in a row, lost a significant amount of body fat. It was observed that the fat absorption went down by 22% and weight gain slowed by 16%.

The researchers claimed that these findings can be scaled according to the human model to further explore the efficacy of caffeine containing beverages in aiding weight loss and cholesterol control.
