Over the last one month, over 300 patients are admitted, of whom 80 have recovered

BMC, in rush to make more hospitals and isolation centers, has converted a whole school in Mulund into a full-fledged Covid-19 hospital, equipped with ICU beds, ventilators, and dialysis machines.

The Mithaghar Municipal School in Mulund (East) was converted into a COVID Care Centre for asymptomatic positive patients early last month. But because the number of patients increased, the facilities were ramped up and now the varsity has most medical facilities except an operation theatre. There are 8 ICU beds with air conditioners, oxygen cylinders, 4 dialysis machines, and a couple of ventilators.

While the BMC has purchased most of the equipment, it's borrowed ventilators and dialysis machines from private hospitals and used community support to mobilise resources. “We have a capacity of 200 beds of which 150 are occupied. we've two ventilators and that we are getting to get more. We got one from MT Agarwal BMC hospital and one from a personal hospital. We have already got 8 ICU beds and that we will increase the capacity to twenty beds within the next few days. So we've everything here except an Operation Theatre (OT) which isn't required for Covid-19 treatment,” Kishore Gandhi, Assistant Municipal Commissioner, T Ward was quoted saying.

The BMC is getting to increase the capacity of the center to 300 beds to cater to more patients from the region. “We have patients here from Mulund, Bhandup, Vikhroli, and other parts of the eastern suburbs. this is often an excellent example of cooperation between elected representatives, BMC, and therefore the police. there's tons of community support. The dialysis machines are traveled by Navnath Healthcare. the fees for patients from the power are paid by the BMC. But other Covid-19 positive patients need to buy their own dialysis,” BJP MLA from Mulund Mihir Kotecha was quoted as saying. So far, 80 Covid-19 patients have received dialysis treatment at the varsity.

Kotecha said that the varsity was readied before there was a spike in cases. “This may be a very big school and maybe a ground plus four structures. So there was tons of space. The BMC added tons of facilities hebdomadally. I'm getting to propose to convert this school into a full-fledged hospital since we'd like more health care facilities in Mulund (East). There are many faculties but few hospitals,” Kotecha said.

The BMC provides patients with breakfast, lunch, evening tea, and dinner too. “We have ordered catering service for all patients and there are no complaints. just one person has died at this facility thus far. therefore the treatment is sweet,” said Gandhi. Each classroom measures around 450 square feet, during which 6 to 7 patients are kept.

While jumbo oxygen cylinders are installed at the varsity, they're going to soon install an oxygen tank. “We are planning an order for an oxygen tank in order that the oxygen capacity is often increased. we've also placed an influence generator at the varsity just in case there's any power outage for the dialysis patients,” Gandhi said.
