ML Dhawale ragging case is far from closure reports Medicircle

The recent ragging case at Palghar M L Dhawale college where seniors were booked for ragging a  lady student is still far from closure. The case which first surfaced on November 14 saw police quickly booking 13 students with 3 doctors among them, but near about a month has passed without much progress. According to recent reports, the case is still being investigated by police without much breakthrough. Initially, police had registered an offence against 16 senior doctors under section 4 of Prevention of Ragging Rules 1999 according to public relations officer of Palghar police station  Mr Hemant Katkar.

According to the complaint filed by a 23-year-old student of Dr M L Dhawale Memorial Homoeopathic Institute in Maharashtra's Palghar district, she was ragged by a group of seniors while preparing for a college event. As the event went by, the college seniors had gathered the freshers for an informal introductory session on Thursday night for discussing the Sunday programme for welcoming the freshers. The session went berserk when 13 seniors, including three doctors, allegedly ragged one of the lady students. As per victim, who hails from Nashik, she was ridiculed due to her language skills during ragging which went on from 10 pm on Thursday to wee hours of Friday. As she reported the incident to her elder sister who resides in Delhi, she advised her to file a complaint with police.

Medicircle spoke with PI Mr Patil who reported, investigations are underway and referred us to the case officer PSI Mr Thakur. Mr Thakur updated that no arrest is made till now.

On the other hand Director of ML Dhawale Homeopathic College, Mr Anand Kapse stated "An internal probe is underway and guilty would be punished. He also added, "It is unfortunate  this incident occurred at our premises but we have strong anti-ragging laws and a committee and she should have asked us before filing the complaint."
