Superfoods to relieve joint pains

Winters can bring on many health issues. Right from the commonly known cold and cough, winters are well known to bring on joint pains. Let us check out some superfoods to relieve joint pains.

People who suffer from arthritis which causes pain in bones and joints have a higher tendency of joint pains in winter. This tendency of joint pains also triggers in patients with auto-immune disorders such as ankylosing spondylitis - pain in the spine or Rheumatoid arthritis- pain in all the joints or fibromyalgia- pain in muscles. This can result in a lot of discomfort and hamper day-to-day activities leading to pain, especially in winter months. 

What research says about joint pain in winter?

It is believed that winter and cold seasons are known to exacerbate arthritis, aches, and pain. This is commonly seen in elderly patients or those suffering from musculoskeletal disorders. So, for dealing with arthritis in winter, it is important to do some daily exercise, improve posture, take your vitamins, and choose a healthy diet to relieve and prevent pain. 

Although there is no specific diet for arthritis, eating certain foods can help strengthen bones and reduce the swelling of the joints. Some superfoods are known to have anti-inflammatory properties which may help relieve pain naturally. 

Superfoods that help relieve joint pains in winter

Fatty fish 

Fatty fish is known to be rich in omega fatty acids and vitamin D. These have great anti-inflammatory properties which can help relieve joint pain. Omega 3 fatty acids are very important for the lubrication of the joints and vitamin D helps in improving the mineral density of the bones. Omega 3 fish oil can work wonders to relieve joint pain. 

Ginger and garlic 

Ginger and garlic are great Indian traditional spices that are rich in diallyl disulfide which is a natural anti-inflammatory compound to help fight inflammation and relieve pain. It also helps improve joint pain. Consuming ginger garlic powder regularly or naturally through foods can help relieve muscle and joint pain. Just add warm water and honey to ginger-garlic powder and sip it during the winter season. 

Cranberries, and blueberries 

Berries are a great source of antioxidants that help prevent the aging of the joints. They neutralize harmful radicals and help in reducing pain or inflammation of the joints. They also contain anthocyanins which are very effective for overall immunity. 

Grab some chicken or vegetable broth 

Soup is a great source of energy for the body. Moreover, it feels relaxing to sip hot soup in winter. Vegetable or chicken soup contains collagen and anti-inflammatory enzymes which is great for relieving joint pain. They have natural elements of glucosamine and chondroitin which is great for joint flexibility and prevents wear and tear of joints.
