We all experience constipation at some point of time but feel shy to discuss it with anyone and suffer silently. If we don’t have one bowel movement per day, it means something is wrong – right? Many people think that 3 bowel movements a week is normal while for others 2-3 bowel movements a day is normal. Everyone is different and so is our body.
Symptoms
Fewer than 3 bowel movements per week
Hard and dry stool
Difficulty passing stool
Abdominal pain or discomfort, bloating
Bad taste in the mouth
Headache, nausea
Feeling of sluggishness
Treatment
Constipation can be easily cured at home with home remedies or natural remedies. It is not a serious illness or a matter of concern unless it’s not getting cured with remedies. Constipation can be resolved by
1. Diet – Constipation can occur because of a lack of fiber and water in the diet. You can increase your intake of fiber-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, dairy products, nuts, and soybean. Also starts consuming foods high in water content like watermelon, tomatoes, cucumber to help fiber do its job. Drink sufficient water, stay hydrated always.
2. Exercise – Studies suggest that lack of physical activity could increase the incidence of constipation. So, to boost your intestine health, you can exercise or simply brisk walk. Doing brisk walking for just 30 minutes a day would help you to overcome the symptoms of constipation.
3. There are also some medicines that can interfere with bowel functions like NSAIDs, antidepressants, iron tablets, anticonvulsants, etc.
4. Some medical conditions like IBS, diabetes, hypothyroidism may also show constipation as their symptoms.
But if you are eating enough fiber, drinking water, doing regular exercise, not taking any medicines that can cause constipation but still getting constipation symptoms, do seek medical help immediately.

1. Blood in your stool
2. Pain during or after bowel movements
3. Constipation accompanied by unexplained weight gain or weight loss
4. Frequent constipation after years of normal bowel movement
