The University of Manchester invites applications for an MSc in International Disaster Management

December 10th, 2024: The University of Manchester is inviting applications from Indian students for their MSc in International Disaster Management for the 2025 session. 

The MSc in International Disaster Management at the University of Manchester offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary exploration of the theories, policies, and practices essential for addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by disasters on a global scale. Over the course of one year, students will delve into key concepts such as vulnerability, resilience, governance, and sustainable development, gaining the critical skills needed to analyse and respond effectively to complex disaster scenarios. Led by an expert team drawn from diverse fields including geography, politics, development studies, and medicine, this program provides a dynamic learning environment where students are encouraged to engage with cutting-edge research, foster innovative solutions, and prepare for impactful careers in disaster management.

 

Upon completion of the program, graduates will emerge equipped with a Master of Science degree, ready to embark on careers in government agencies, non-profit organisations, international development agencies, or research institutions. Entry Requirements: 

 

  • Prospective students should hold an upper Second-Class Honours Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline from a recognized university. Alternatively, applicants with relevant professional experience may also be considered.
  • An overall grade of 6.5 in IELTS with 6.5 in writing and no less than 6.0 in all skills is required, or a score of 93+ in the TOEFL iBT with a minimum writing score of 22 and no skill below 20.

 

Tuition Fee:

For entry in the academic year beginning September 2025, the tuition fee is £27,500.

 

Scholarship:

There are several scholarships and bursaries available for international students, such as: 

 

  • Several postgraduate-taught scholarships and awards to outstanding applicants, such as the Humanities Bicentenary Scholarship of £10,000 for 1 year of study.
  • HCRI Scholarshipeach year HCRI offers a themed scholarship (set at the value of 1-year, full Home fee) open to postgraduate students, this is currently set at £13,500.
  • Manchester Alumni Bursaryoffers a £3,000 reduction in tuition fees to University of Manchester alumni who achieved a 1st within the last three years and are progressing to a postgraduate taught master's course.
  • Manchester Master's Bursaryis a University-wide scheme that offers 100 bursaries worth £3,000 in funding for students from underrepresented groups.
  • Postgraduate 1+3 fundingis available from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) for students to pursue postgraduate study through a master's (one year) leading into a PhD (three years). It requires a project proposal as part of the application.
