New Delhi, February 3rd, 2025: The University of Manchester is inviting applications from Indian students for their MA in Digital Media, Culture and Society for the 2025 session.
The MA in Digital Media, Culture, and Society provides advanced interdisciplinary exploration into the analysis and utilisation of digital media and technology, with a specific emphasis on their cultural and societal ramifications. In the twenty-first century, the rise of digital artifacts has profoundly altered our cultural landscape, social connections, economies, and political structures. This program delves into the critical examination and active participation in new modes of intellectual inquiry, artistic expression, and civic involvement facilitated by digital media. Moreover, it equips students to identify and address digital-mediated challenges to civil liberties, such as privacy erosion and algorithmic biases, while also imparting essential digital skills like data analytics and visualisation.
By fostering a research-driven, seminar-oriented environment, the course cultivates a diverse student cohort from varied backgrounds, preparing them for influential roles as both critical thinkers and practitioners in the technology sector and the cultural and creative industries. Throughout the program, participants refine their abilities to assess the cultural and societal impacts of digital media and technology, appraise digitally enabled forms of intellectual exploration, artistic creativity, and community engagement, and conduct independent research within the realm of digital technology and media.
Programme delivery: Students will experience diverse assessment methods, including academic essays, creative reflections, Storymaps, visualisations, and practical portfolios. Additionally, students can opt for digitally enhanced or practice-based dissertations, offering flexibility in their research approach. Furthermore, students have the option to engage in an industry placement, jointly supervised by their hosting organisation and an academic tutor, providing valuable real-world experience alongside academic guidance.
