A stressful incident causes a rush of hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol, to flow through the body, whether it be the sudden appearance of a snake on the path or the fear of losing your job when the boss yells.

Stress is the response to feeling unable to handle particular demands or circumstances. However, if a person does not take action to control it, stress can develop into a chronic condition.
