Do you know the right way of brushing? Here are some tips for brushing as improper brushing can lead to periodontal diseases.

Do all of us know the right way of brushing, not really? Brushing is a part of oral hygiene. Oral hygiene includes much more than just brushing. There are 4 easy steps to clean teeth.

Step I – Flossing which we hardly do. Flossing is cleaning in between your teeth with the use of thread. This can prevent problems like cavities, bad breath, and gum diseases.

Step II – Brushing the teeth with the right brush twice a day is recommended. The brush should have soft bristles. Toothpaste should be containing fluoride in it.

Step III – Tongue cleaning, is one of the essential parts of oral hygiene. While cleaning the tongue, ensure that all white deposit over the tongue is removed completely.

Step IV – Mouthwash, this has to be diluted. Add one part of water with one part of mouthwash. Avoid using alcohol-free products.

Here are some tips for brushing as improper brushing can lead to periodontal diseases

Toothbrush – The toothbrush should be made of soft bristles. Choose a toothbrush of appropriate length. Kids have to be given small toothbrushes and adults should use toothbrushes of perfect length. When bristles lose their flexibility, it means the time has come to change the brush. It is usually 3-4 months.

Duration of brushing – if you are brushing 2-3 times a day, each brushing should be for two minutes only. Divide your mouth into 4 quadrants, and spend 30 seconds for each quadrant. Brushing more than this could lead to the wearing of enamel, hence avoid it.

Brushing technique – The ideal way to brush is in circular motion but cover the entire outer and inner surfaces of teeth. Do not put extra pressure to remove plaque. Soft deposits can get easily removed with soft circular brushing.

Storing of brushes – Rinse your brush with plain water before and after brushing. Avoid keeping your toothbrush near the toilet. As there are high chances of bacteria around it.

Timing – Don’t go immediately for brushing after having acidic food. The acidic food softens the tooth and brushing it immediately may result in wearing of the enamel. So, if you have had acidic food, wait for some time, say 30-45 minutes.
