Argusoft’s solution to prevent AIDS transmission from mother to child

▴ AIDS prevention
Argusoft has developed a mobile phone based Health Management and Monitoring System for the prevention of transmission of AIDS from mother to child. Leveraging technology is the organization’s forte. Healthcare is its new vertical in which it has done impactful service towards AIDS prevention with use of technology.

In the year 2002, the Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS (PPTCT) program got started in India. The goal of this initiative has been prevention of the prenatal transmission of HIV from the mother to the offspring which is preventable if proper steps at all levels are taken. At the beginning of this program, outreach workers (ORW) had been involved in identifying and tracking the HIV positive pregnant ladies through predominantly a manual process. The ORWs had been maintaining the details of the ladies manually in registers or diaries.

The challenges of maintaining manual records of HIV positive ladies

Keeping manual records is time taking measure creating challenges like problems in maintaining data integrity and accuracy. If there is a difference between the outreach worker who had met a lady initially and the one who had been following up, then data integrity has more chances of getting hampered. Such data requires confidentiality too due to the stigma attached. There are chances of inadvertent miss outs and difficulty in monitoring door to door campaigns.

Argusoft’s PPTCT - Health Management and Monitoring System is solution to the challenges

The mAID (PPTCT – Health Management and Monitoring System) developed by Argusoft not only addresses all these challenges, but also provides other significant information benefits for the PPTCT program that is running in the country. Argusoft's mAID mobile application can run on any java enabled mobile phone. It makes use of SMS technology. Instead of manual methods, the ORWs are now able to capture data and provide information about all their tasks related to the PPTCT program through the mobile application.

Argusoft’s achievements

Argusoft has received many awards and recognitions for the social impact that it has made. Ram Gopalan is the managing director of the organization and Ravi Gopalan is the President and the CEO.
