The Chinese mainland on Friday reported 22 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases, of which eight were locally transmitted and 14 arrived from outside the mainland, the National Health Commission said Saturday.
Seven of the locally transmitted cases were reported in northeast China's Liaoning Province, and one in Beijing, the commission said in its daily report.
The 53-year-old man, who lives in Beijing's Shunyi District, is in close contact with a confirmed case reported previously and tested positive for the novel coronavirus during the quarantine, according to the city's health commission.
The city has tightened its epidemic prevention measures.
The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland reached 87,093 by Friday, including 383 patients still receiving treatment.
4,634 had died as a result of the virus, according to the commission.
