Dr. Manoj Kandoi talks about the management and exercises in the case of arthritis. He also explains different types of arthritis along with different treatments. He says it is important to consult your doctor in case of arthritis for treatment and cure.

He is a member of the Indian Arthroscopy Society, Indian Medical Association (IMA), Indian Society for Surgery of the Hand (ISSH), Indian Foot Society, INDIAN ORTHOPEDIC ASSOCIATION, Maharashtra Orthopedics Society. Currently, He is practicing at Ashirwad Hospital in Ambernath, Thane. He offers a number of medical services including Foot Care, Functional Orthopedics, Joint and Muscle Problems, Joint Replacement Surgery, and Knee Replacement.

Treatment of Arthritis

Dr. Manoj Kandoi, says, “Arthritis is a broad spectrum problem. It causes disorders of the joints and are of many types. Broadly speaking, it can be divided into many types- 

  • Primary arthritis - which occurs due to age 
  • Secondary arthritis - which occurs due to injury 
  • Inflammatory arthritis- basically causes rheumatoid and ankylosing arthritis. It involves multiple joints. 

Treatment depends on the types of arthritis and includes- 

  • Exercise 
  • Medicines for inflammatory arthritis 
  • Injectables in joints 
  • Joint replacement surgery - in an advanced stage of arthritis 
  • Treatment of disease condition
  • Rheumatic treatment from a rheumatologist.”

Management of  Arthritis

Dr. Manoj Kandoi, informs,” Knee arthritis is a very common condition and type of arthritis. Primary knee arthritis can be prevented with- 

  • Weight reduction 
  • Stretching exercises 
  • Keeping yourself fit
  • Consult orthopedic surgeon
  • Avoid ground-level activities such as squatting 
  • Avoid climbing staircase 
  • Avoid Zumba and skipping 
  • Walk on a place surface 
  • Do cardio at 6-speed with no slope
  • Yoga 
  • Water exercises
  • Nutritional joint supplementation
  • Consult a doctor.”

Diet for Arthritis

Dr. Manoj Kandoi, states, “Degenerative arthritis has no relation with diet. There is no lubrication diet for joints. However, calcium and vitamin D can be improved with diet. Inflammatory arthritis problems may increase with foods like pickles, and lemon. Avoid such specific food items. Eat healthy food. Avoid fried food. Maintain a healthy weight. There are no specific diet modifications for arthritis. There is no food that can increase the lubrication of joints. In case of high uric acids, it is important to stop having meat and high protein diet.”

Overweight and arthritis

Dr. Manoj Kandoi, says, “If your weight increases even by 1 kg, it directly affects your knee joint. the weight increase may cause an increase in loading. This may cause back and knee pain. Weight reduction can help. 1k of body weight causes 4 kg of loading on weight-bearing joints on the knee.”
