Startup Cloudphysician bridges the gap of shortage of intensivists in ICU at overcrowded hospitals of India through its tele-ICU platform

▴ Healthcare technology
The pandemic brought the problem of shortage of intensivists to the forefront. Cloudphysician is one such organization that is working towards filling this gap. As opposed to the ratio of 1:15 intensivist at hospitals’ bedsides, Cloudphysician makes possible 1 intensivist per 60-80 sick patients through its tele-ICU platform - RADAR.

If we calculate the number of ICU beds in Indian hospitals, the percentage of intensivists in comparison is very low at less than 2%. Intensivists are specialists in critical care. The problem of shortage of intensivists in our country became even more glaring with the pandemic. Organizations like Cloudphysician were a ray of hope during these times. Cloudphysician’s RADAR solves the  problem of intensivist shortage through an integrative smart ICU system, centralized command center with 24x7 trained intensivists, automated early warnings, actionable decision support and decision assistance.

Team of 2 doctors and 1 engineer try to bring a revolution in healthcare through technology

With their in-depth expertise in adoption and implementation of various technologies for delivery of advanced and critical care in hospitals, Dr. Dhruv Joshi, Dr. Dileep Raman and Dhruv Sud built up an organization that has been doing great service to humankind particularly during these pandemic times. They possess in-depth expertise in the adoption and implementation of the latest healthcare technology.

Dr. Dhruv Joshi is a Pulmonary and Critical Care specialist who got trained at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, USA. He graduated medical school from St John’s Medical College, Bangalore, India, following which he completed his Internal Medicine training at the Good Samaritan Hospital, USA.

Dr. Dileep Raman is a Pulmonary, Critical Care medicine and sleep medicine specialist who got trained at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, USA. He graduated medical school from the Government Medical College Thrissur, India, with a distinguished gold medal in internal medicine for academic excellence. Following which, he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Texas Tech University, USA, where he served as Chief Medical Resident.

Dhruv Sud is the Head of Engineering at Cloudphysician. Dhruv brings more than a decade of international leadership experience working with software, with a special focus on healthcare technology. He spent 8 years at Epic - the leading medical software organization in the US. Prior to that, he worked at Conexant in the IP video domain.

The three of them got together to create a blend of modern technology with quality healthcare, which helps increase the number of ICU beds that an intensivist can reach thereby improving efficiency and affordability. Leveraging the 360° view of the patient and analysis of structured patient data, Cloudphysician is able to see improved outcomes in as short a time as 3 months. RADAR uses this data to run an analytics and a decision support engine that allows the clinicians to write notes faster, deliver protocolized care in an error free manner. The flexibility of the system helps in plugging into diverse ICU settings in heterogeneous landscapes of our country.

How does it work?

Cloudphysician's ICU management platform, RADAR, seamlessly integrates patient data across SmartICUs. RADAR digitalizes and provides clinical decision support through analysis of patient data. Specialist doctors at the command center then, together with the bedside team, ensure evidence based care of ICU patients. RADAR has an automated early warning system as well that proves quite helpful.

Intensivists use RADAR’s real time video communication platform and communicate with the bedside service providers in the shortest time frame. The healthcare staff at hospitals can save scarce supplies of their protective equipment and ensure their own safety by using RADAR’s monitoring technology.
