Periods are literally painful. This pain often interrupts our daily course of routine. Here are some tips that are helpful in reducing the pain and discomfort

Periods are literally painful. It is almost unfair for us women to face the pain during the periods which can interrupt our daily course of routine. The combination of cramps, bloating, mood swings, intense pain, and digestive problems can become extremely unbearable. Here are some tips that one can follow to aid the discomfort and suffering

Stay hydrated – Women should drink a lot of water during their periods. Dehydration symptoms are headaches & bloating due to water retention. Drinking a lot of water counters both. Staying hydrated reduces bloating. Increasing the intake of water-based foods like lettuce, watermelon, or berries, etc are a good alternative to staying hydrated.

Eat iron-rich green leafy – During periods, women lose blood every month which could further decline the iron content in the body, this makes us feel sluggish and lethargic. Eating leafy greens like spinach and kale can boost iron levels, especially for those who have a dip due to a heavy flow.

Avoid dairy milk - Avoiding dairy, especially cow's milk reduces period pain. This is due to the hormones present in dairy which has a direct relation with the hormonal balance of our body causing period pain.

Stay away from sugar, alcohol and processed foods – Firstly, these items boost up the energy followed by an immediate crash which worsens the mood. They also hamper the good gut bacteria causing adverse effects. During the period, always stay away from sugar, alcohol and processed foods.

Anti-inflammatory teas are good - Ginger tea, lemon tea, turmeric tea, fennel tea, peppermint tea is all helpful in decreasing inflammation and bloating which causes muscle ache during the periods. These teas are fantastic and caffeine-free and help in reducing muscle spasms.

Heating pads - A heating pad during your period is a total lifesaver. The heat helps soothe your abdomen muscles and relieves you of the pain. You could even try herbal relief patches. These herbal period pain relief patches are convenient and relieve pain without messiness.
