Here's how blogging motivated spine survivor Snigdha Jayaswal

Spine injury survival Snigdha Jayaswal found all hope lost when she lost her ability to move. Read to find out how she found her motivation and self-love through blogging.

Snigdha is a spine injury survivor. Despite her bedridden state, she has chosen the creative outlet of making content on beauty and skincare. Her journey of blogging started in January as a way to motivate herself and others. She now is a motivation for us all.

Motivation behind blogging

She begins, “The cause of my injury began 5 years ago. At the gym, the trainer made me do the wrong exercises. Because of this, I ended up with a spine injury and that made me bed-ridden. After that, I have undergone four spinal surgeries in a span of 1 year. My condition relapsed every time and the surgeries did nothing to improve my condition. Since 2018, I was seeing this downfall and this made it apparent that my condition won’t change.”

“While all this happened I was on medication. This caused another problem, I started seeing pimples, whiteheads, and other skin issues. The first thing I did was order a mirror for myself. I hadn’t used a mirror in a long while. As I began seeing myself more and more, I became motivated to improve on this. I asked my parents to buy me more skincare products.”

“Online retailers like Amazon and Nykaa were helpful. Then I started learning about the products and how their formulation worked. Gradually, I started seeing the results of using these products. This made me positively addicted to myself and that motivated me to fall in love with myself. I am working on myself to at least be able to use a wheelchair. All this was possible because I fell in love with myself and was motivated to make changes in me and I want to motivate others as well.”

Role of skincare in her life

She explains, “Through skincare, I was able to discover self-love. Skincare has helped me look beyond the disability aspect of my life. It helped me concentrate on my abilities more than my disabilities. I have gone through times when I have no hope in life. There might be many people who are losing hope too. Many of them need that push, that motivation to help them realise that there is beauty in them. I want to showcase to all of those people that despite losing mobility, bladder, and bowel control because of my surgery, I am soldering on and so can they.”

“I had lost hope too in my life. Then on the internet, I found another spine injury survivor named Muniba Mazari. She is my role model and I aspire to be like her. She is the Iron Lady of Pakistan and I want to be the Iron Lady of India. Though I am in a confined position I started this journey with whatever abilities I have. I hope my journey motivates others as much as it motivates me. This can help all of us to grow together. That is my motive.”

Research Process behind Skincare Reviews

She says, “I have tried these skincare products for the past one year. In my YouTube videos, I have showcased my journey of using these products and my before and after images. I was suffering from acne when I turned into a teenager. My journey of getting clearer skin was due to my own work as my situation didn’t allow me to go see a specialist.”

“My research involved me reading the description of the products and on the brand’s respective website. I cleared all my doubts by asking the company via their Instagram and Facebook handles. I started learning about activities from various sites. I would also get my mother and sister involved in this process. I used to post about this in my group. Then a friend suggested why not start proper blogging? This made me officially start my journey. My mother, who is my god, has always had a firm belief in me. She too motivated me to do this and also helps me film my videos. All these people combined with my research help me review skincare products.”
