The journey of Pristyn Care

After the April funding round led by US-based Tiger Global Management, Pristyn Care received an added $53 million. These funds pushed the company’s evaluation to $550 million a surge from the previous $250 million.

After completing his Master’s in Engineering Management from Duke University, Harsimarbir Singh founded and failed in establishing his first three startups. He later joined the then UrbanClap (currently Urban Company) in 2015 and then MobiKwik in 2018. In the same year, he founded another startup with his two childhood friends, Vaibhav Kapoor and Garima Sawhney. The three friends turned founders created the successful - Pristyn Care.

Pristyn Care offers its customers affordable and advanced surgical care. Their model is referred to as the OYO of healthcare. They have 100 plus clinics where less invasive surgeries take place. Other heavier surgeries take place in Pristyn Care’s 300 plus partnered hospitals spread across 30 cities. Currently, they have 200 full-time surgeons and 100 visiting consultations on its payroll.

The startup initially only focused on elective surgeries like hernia, cataracts and hysterectomies. But after receiving over 200 calls a day for Covid related problems, they ventured into providing covid care too. They started a 70-bed facility fully equipped with oxygen support in Gurugram.

Since its inception in 2018, the venture has performed over 3 lakh surgeries. They provide a holistic experience from initial diagnostics, hospital admission work, surgery and treatment and even health insurance processing. The three-year company has received a total of $81 million in four rounds of funding. The ventures first institutional investor was Sequoia Capital India and they raised $4 million in 2019.

In its series B funding, Hummingbird Ventures along with Greenoaks Capital raised $12 million. For its series C round, another $12 million was raised by Epiq Capital and Redwood Trust. This year in April, the US-based Tiger Global Management led the series D round and added $53 million in Pristyn Care’s funds. These funds pushed the company’s evaluation to $550 million a surge from the previous $250 million.

With new funds, will Pristyn Care be able to provide its affordable surgery care to India’s tier 2 and 3 cities? At the same time, they want to attract international customers who are looking for affordable treatments in India.
