3 rd meeting of Jammu & Kashmir Medical Science Congress was held today at SKIMS auditorium. The theme of the event was the revitalizing the field of medical sciences in J&K. The event was supported by J&K Science Technology & Innovation Council. Prof. Talat, Vice-Chancellor University of Kashmir was the chief guest on the occasion. In his address, he stressed on an understanding of problems locally and intensive research needed in this regard. He said various collaborative initiatives have been taken with SKIMS to look into various areas and appreciated SKIMS for being an Institution of excellence. Director SKIMS/EOSG, Dr A.G. Ahangar congratulated organizing committee for organizing the. He said this science congress is an educational program of identifying problem areas and evolving solutions. He further said that there is a need to adapt to technological innovations. There are various challenges in the form of various diseases which have been cured and conquered but a lot more needs to be done, he added.
Dr Ashraf Ganie, Professor Department of Endocrinology and organizing chairman of the event welcomed guests on the occasion. He thanked Director SKIMS /EOSG &Dean Medical Faculty SKIMS for their support. In his inaugural address, he focused on the importance of scientific research in delivering proper medical care as medical care delivered without research and academics leads to adverse events, he added. Dean Medical faculty, Dr. Omar Javed Shah, Prof. Gh. Jeelani Ex-Principal GMC Srinagar, Prof. Meharaj-ud-din Ex-Director SKIMS also spoke on the occasion and congratulated organizing committee for taking this initiative which provides an opportunity to the budding scholars and researchers to present their findings and open new horizons of research for the future. The event was attended by leading experts/researchers/scientists of the country who deliberated on varied topics. Leading surgical gastroenterologist Dr. Avinash Supe gave a detailed presentation on surgical education. He remarked the surgeons have to embrace honesty, empathy and commitment for good practice.
