The state‑of‑the‑art Red Zone in the Advanced Trauma & Emergency Ward, strengthening rapid response for critically ill and injured patients was inaugurated.

Chennai, January 23, 2026: SRM Hospital marked a significant moment in emergency and trauma care with the inauguration of the Red Zone of its Advanced Trauma & Emergency Ward. A state-of-the-art critical care facility designed to strengthen rapid response and specialised intervention for severely injured and critically ill patients. The occasion also coincided with an important milestone under the Government of Tamil Nadu’s flagship emergency trauma care scheme, “Nammai Kakkum 48,” with the 5,00,000th beneficiary case being formally acknowledged at the Trauma & Emergency Department of SRM Hospital.

The event was graced by M. Varalakshmi, Member of Legislative Assembly, Chengalpattu Constituency, who marked the milestone during the inauguration in the presence of Dr T. Mythili, Additional Registrar, Prof. Nitin Nagarkar, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dr V. P. Chandrasekaran, Advisor & Associate Dean, and Dr Venkataraman, Medical Superintendent of SRM Hospital along with senior faculty members and the dedicated team of Emergency Medicine doctors and staff.

The event highlighted the hospital’s role in supporting the State’s emergency trauma care framework, reinforcing a shared commitment to providing free, immediate, life-saving treatment during the first 48 hours to trauma patients, irrespective of their state of origin. This approach ensures that timely medical intervention is never delayed due to financial or procedural constraints during the most critical window of care.

In her remarks, M. Varalakshmi, Member of Legislative Assembly, Chengalpattu Constituency, said, “Nammai Kakkum 48 is a people-centric initiative designed to ensure that no life is lost due to lack of immediate medical attention or financial constraints. The scheme has brought hope and reassurance to families across Tamil Nadu, and the recognition of the 5,00,000th beneficiary highlights the far-reaching impact of this life-saving programme.”

SRM Hospital reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the Government of Tamil Nadu in strengthening emergency and trauma care services, while continuing to deliver timely, high-quality, and compassionate care to all sections of society.
