9-Month-Old Infant Undergoes Successful PUJ Surgery at RG Hospitals, Rajouri Garden, Preventing Kidney Damage

Early detection and surgical correction of congenital urinary blockage prevents long-term kidney damage.

New Delhi, 19th February 2026:RG Hospitals, Rajouri Garden, has given a 9-month-22-day-old infant a fighting chance at normal life through precision surgery that unblocked his kidney's urine drainage system. Detected in the womb at six months gestation, the baby's congenital Left Pelvi-Ureteric Junction (PUJ) obstruction threatened permanent kidney damage, until Dr. Susheel Kharbanda, Senior Consultant Urology, performed a flawless Left Pyeloplasty with DJ stent placement, restoring healthy urine flow and preventing lifelong renal complications.

This critical congenital defect, where the junction between kidney pelvis and ureter narrows, silently swells infant kidneys, invites infections, and risks irreversible damage if untreated. Antenatal scans flagged the blockage early, enabling RG Hospitals to intervene surgically before function deteriorated, highlighting why timely paediatric urology saves futures.

Commenting on the case, Dr. Susheel Kharbanda, Senior Consultant, Urology, RG Hospitals said, “Early diagnosis of PUJ obstruction allows us to intervene before kidney function is compromised. Pediatric pyeloplasty, performed with precision, restores normal urine flow, preserves renal function, and ensures optimal recovery in infants.”

The patient underwent Left Pyeloplasty with DJ stent placement under general anesthesia. During the surgery, the obstructed segment of the PUJ was carefully excised, and reconstruction was performed to restore normal urine drainage. The DJ stent ensured smooth postoperative flow. The procedure was completed successfully without complications, and expert postoperative monitoring supported a safe and rapid recovery.

The case highlights the importance of antenatal detection and timely surgical management in pediatric urology. With precise surgical intervention and specialized anesthesia care, RG Hospitals, Rajouri Garden ensures long-term kidney health in infants with complex congenital urinary conditions.
