“A Promise to Blue! How Kaivanna Shah’s Loss Inspired, Zumigo - a Simpler, Kinder Way to Access Vet Care ”

What sets Zumigo apart is that we’re more than just an online vet consultation platform — we are your pet’s virtual co-parent.

What inspired you to start Zumigo, and what gap did you see in the market that others missed?

Zumigo emerges from a deeply personal experience. I lost my beloved pup Blue, unexpectedly,  when he was just only nine months old – on that day, timely access to veterinary care became Blue’s biggest struggle. The experience in itself left an indelible mark on my mind. In trying to navigate my grief, pain, and frustration, I found myself looking more closely into the veterinary ecosystem and came to realize just how fragmented and siloed pet healthcare in India really is. I promised myself that no other pet parent should ever go through the same helplessness I felt in Blue’s final moments.

Through my interactions with fellow pet parents, I kept hearing concerns and pain points associated with convenience, accessibility and more, which emphasised how veterinary care is a cumbersome experience for pet parents. To simplify the process became a priority,  and that's how Zumigo was born — created in Blue’s loving memory — as a comprehensive, tech-enabled platform dedicated to non-emergency pet healthcare services. From consultations to diagnostics and more, Zumigo is designed to make veterinary care accessible, convenient, and stress-free for both pets and their families.

At Zumigo, our goal is to make navigating veterinary care simpler by placing comfort and convenience at the heart of everything we do. We believe that caring for a pet’s health should never feel overwhelming. Instead, it should be a seamless experience that empowers parents to identify concerns early and take a proactive, holistic approach to their pet’s well-being.

There are online vet consultation platforms already. What makes Zumigo different?

What sets Zumigo apart is that we’re more than just an online vet consultation platform — we are your pet’s virtual co-parent.

Beyond offering convenient access to vets, we take care of the little but important details, from reminders for follow-ups to vaccination and deworming schedules. With Zumigo, you not only meet the right vet by learning about their background and expertise prior to scheduling an appointment, but also have an option to either opt for a doorstep visit for hands-on care or choose a teleconsult for convenience. No commutes, no waiting queues, no anxiety — just smarter, quicker, and more personal care for your pet.

Trust is everything when it comes to pets. How do you win over skeptical pet parents trying Zumigo for the first time?

Trust is at the heart of every decision a pet parent makes. When it comes to veterinary care, it's not simply about convenience – it's about knowing your pet is in safe, capable hands. That’s why we make trust the foundation of every interaction on Zumigo.

Veterinarians on Zumigo are verified for their identity and license, so pet parents can be assured that their pet’s care is handled by a certified professional whom they can rely on. Zumigo empowers pet parents to pick a vet who they feel is apt for pet’s healthcare concerns; giving pet parents a choice that prioritizes preference and quality over proximity, moving away from location-based vet assignments.

Our commitment to care doesn't end once an appointment is booked. After every consultation, the veterinarian shares a diagnosis which is saved in the pet’s digital health records – giving pet parents an easy and continued access to their pet’s medical history. In addition to veterinary consultations and care, Zumigo offers doorstep diagnostic and grooming services, because we believe loving and looking after your pet should always be simple, transparent, and stress-free.

India is still an emerging market for structured pet healthcare. How big is the opportunity you see?

India is certainly emerging as one of the fastest-growing pet care markets globally. Online channels in the pet industry are witnessing remarkable growth. The Indian pet care market, valued tentatively at US$3.6 billion in 2024, is projected to double by 2028. The veterinary healthcare sector is estimated to be worth US$1.6 billion in 2025 and is rapidly growing. This extraordinary growth is being fueled by a cultural transformation, particularly among millennials and Gen Z, who increasingly view pets not as distant companions, but as integral family members.

With over 32 million pets in households in 2024 and estimated to reach 51 million by 2028, India's pet population has also increased significantly due to urbanization, nuclear families, and changing preferences as more people begin to view pets as part of the family and ideal companions. In metro cities, young couples and nuclear families are often welcoming a puppy or kitten even before planning for children. This shift is redefining not only expressions of love and companionship but also standards of care. Beyond food and toys, pet parents are investing significantly in preventive healthcare, grooming, wellness, and technology-driven solutions designed to enhance their pets’ quality of life.

The veterinary care segment, in particular, is witnessing rapid expansion. Demand for convenient  consultations, vaccinations, diagnostics, and preventive treatments is surging, driven by the fast-growing urban pet population. The need for high-quality veterinary services has never been more pressing.

At Zumigo, we see this transformation not merely as a market opportunity, but as a responsibility. Each consultation represents a meaningful story—a family eager to avoid long clinic queues, a pup deserving a calm check-up at home, or a parent committed to never missing a vital vaccination milestone. Our mission is to support this new era of pet parenting with smarter, simpler, and more compassionate healthcare solutions.

Can you walk us through the customer journey on Zumigo say, if my pet falls sick today?

If your pet falls ill today, the journey on Zumigo is designed to be simple and convenient. You begin by registering your pet on the platform and then choosing whether you’d like a teleconsultation or a home visit. After that, you enter the symptoms you’ve noticed and upload any supporting images. For instance, if your pet has a skin infection, you can attach an image of the infection, if visible.

Next, you decide whether to choose a general practitioner or a specialist and pick a suitable time slot for the consultation. Your chosen veterinarian then connects with you through your preferred mode, either virtually or in person at your home. Once the consultation is complete, the vet shares their diagnosis and prescription, and these records are automatically saved to your pet’s digital medical file.

The entire process is quick, seamless, and built to make pet care accessible right when you need it most.

Quick-commerce for humans is already tough. How do you handle the added complexity of live animals and medical needs?

At Zumigo, we prioritise comfort and convenience for pets and their parents. The key here isn’t necessarily speed, because at Zumigo we focus on preventive, non-emergency, and non-surgical care. Additionally, we also provide doorstep diagnostics, radiology, and grooming services to make the whole experience easier and holistic for pet parents.

Zumigo simplifies pet parenting with convenient and comfortable care — no more restless pets or overwhelmed parents.

What’s the one message you’d like to give India’s growing community of pet parents?

My message to India’s growing community of pet parents would be to cherish every moment with their pet. Pet parenting should be a joyful and memorable journey.

Try to build simple routines that make caring for your pet easier despite your busy schedules. Remember, you are your pet’s whole world—make time for them and prioritize their health. Be proactive with annual health checkups, regular vaccinations, and deworming to keep them at their best. Veterinary care is not only about fixing problems when they arise, but also about staying attentive to early signs, understanding your pet’s unique needs, and supporting them with wholesome nutrition and a holistic approach to healthcare. Alongside conventional medicine, you may also explore alternative therapies such as veterinary homeopathy or acupuncture to enhance their overall well-being.
