Aditya Jyot Foundation for Twinkling Little Eyes to conduct 5,000 FREE cataract & retina surgeries for low income groups across India

The Foundation runs outreach programs in rural and urban slums and tribal areas that strive to provide quality eye care for the underprivileged. Aims out-reach programs to redress the suffering of low-income groups, the marginalized population living in rural and urban slums and tribal areas.

With support from Bajaj Auto Ltd, Aditya Jyot Foundation installs Mumbai’s first digital microscope ZEISS ARTEVO 800 with 3d technology. This promises to make eye surgery more precise & ensure high-quality surgeries with reduced errors for patients. 

3D technology means better visualization, greater depth perception, and reduced errors. Overall better outcomes for the patients.

Mumbai, 21st February 2020: Aditya Jyot Foundation for Twinkling Little Eyes, a not-for-profit body, with support from Bajaj Auto Ltd, installed Mumbai’s first digital microscope ZEISS ARTEVO 800 to make eye surgeons more certain and confident; as well as to ensure trauma-free surgeries for patients. With the ARTEVO 800, Aditya Jyot Foundation for Twinkling Little Eyes, in association with Bajaj Auto Ltd, will conduct 5,000 FREE cataract and retina surgeries for low-income groups.

Prof. Dr. S. Natarajan (Managing Trustee, Aditya Jyot Foundation for Twinkling Little Eyes) and Mr. Madhur Bajaj (VC, Bajaj Auto Ltd) unveiled ZEISS ARTEVO 800 - a completely integrated digital microscope for heads-up surgery and to leverage digital visualization to help ophthalmologists reach new levels of performance to help achieve superior outcomes and increase patient satisfaction.

Prof. Dr. S. Prof. Dr. S. Natarajan is the 3rd Generation ophthalmologist, who was inspired by late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam to give back to society. Dr. Natarajan established a non-profitable Public Charitable Trust, Aditya Jyot Foundation for Twinkling Little Eyes in 2005. The Foundation runs outreach programs in rural and urban slums and tribal areas that strive to provide quality eye care for the underprivileged. Aditya Jyot Diabetic Retinopathy Urban Mumbai Slum Study (AJ- DRUMSS) which was funded by the World Diabetic Federation and Tata trusts with specific focus to understand the genetic profile of diabetic patients to prevent blindness. Through the door to door campaign, the Foundation has covered over 2,00,000 slum households and over ONE MILLION people in slums The Foundation has run several hundreds of Diabetic Retinopathy camps and screened over 70,000 people. The Foundation has also focussed on children’s eye health and over 100,000 children have been screened in school screening programs.

In a PPP with MCGM, the Foundation supported by Tata Trusts has started the initiative “STOP BLINDNESS” which is a Teleophthalmology model for diabetic retinopathy screening using Artificial Intelligence as an aid. The project has now been initiated in 2 other districts of Maharashtra.
The Aditya Jyot Foundation is committed to reducing both avoidable and unavoidable blindness and has also established the R&D Unit. Our vision is to establish cutting edge research and technology to understand the bio-mechanism of eye diseases and to discover novel therapeutic approaches including regenerative medicine. The most diabetic eye screenings in 8 hours are 649, and was achieved at an event organized by Prof. Dr. S. Natarajan, Dr. Radhika Krishnan and Aditya Jyot Foundation for Twinkling Little Eyes (All India, in Dharavi, India, on 2nd February 2019.
