The Union Health Ministry has sought clarification from the Bihar government that Darbhanga Medical College building is not a heritage building with a view to commission the second All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in its place.

Recently, the Union Health Monster Dr. Harsh Vardhan cleared the proposal for establishing a new AIIMS. The proposal will be sent to the cabinet and the process of establishing the new AIIMS will begin by the end of 2020.

The upcoming AIIMS would also be a medical college wherein aspiring medical students can pursue MBBS and post graduate and super speciality courses.
