Reflecting a major structural expansion in its clinical operations, Apollo Hospitals today announced the transition of its flagship oncology unit at Teynampet into a comprehensive multi-speciality hospital.

CHENNAI, AUGUST 26, 2026; Reflecting a major structural expansion in its clinical operations, Apollo Hospitals today announced the transition of its flagship oncology unit at Teynampet into a comprehensive multi-speciality hospital. The facility, previously known as Apollo Cancer Centre, has been officially renamed Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Teynampet.

Established in 1993, the Teynampet hospital has been associated with oncology care for 33 years. While maintaining its established tertiary and quaternary cancer care services, the campus will now provide full-fledged clinical and surgical interventions across Cardiology, Neurology and Neurosciences, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, Spine & Orthopaedics, Urology, Critical Care, and Internal Medicine. The upgraded facility comprises 300 beds, including 51 critical care beds, supported by 5 modern operating theatres and 1 Cath Lab.

The launch was attended by Dr. K. G. Arunraj, Ex. I.R.S., Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu, as Chief Guest, and Dr. Darez Ahamed, I.A.S., Secretary to Government, Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, as Guest of Honoeur.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Arunraj underlined the growing necessity of integrated healthcare systems. "Patients presenting with complex clinical conditions frequently require coordinated, cross-speciality evaluation and care. Tamil Nadu continues to strengthen its public and private healthcare ecosystem and the government supports initiatives that enhance public access to high-end, specialized medical infrastructure, he said Dr. Arunraj also thanked Apollo Hospitals for being among the firsts to contribute Rs. 1 Crore for “Nalam TN”

Upgraded Infrastructure

The Teynampet facility, which has functioned predominantly as an oncology destination for several decades, has undergone significant diagnostic and therapeutic infrastructure upgrades. Key additions to the campus include:

Advanced Diagnostics: An Advanced Cath Lab, a dedicated 24/7 stroke care unit, Tamil Nadu’s first Zoom Endoscopy system, designed for high-definition diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal procedures, an advanced bronchoscopy suite, and a specialised Sleep Lab.

Oncology Continuum: Existing specialized oncology services remain fully operational, featuring high-precision platforms such as CyberKnife, TrueBeam, Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) units, CAR-T Cell Therapy, and Da Vinci robotic surgical systems.

Cross-Disciplinary Approach

Speaking at the event, Dr. Preetha Reddy, Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, said, “For more than three decades, families have trusted Apollo Hospitals in Teynampet with one of life’s most difficult journeys – cancer care. That trust, together with the extraordinary advances we are seeing in medicine, gives us both the opportunity and the responsibility to do more. So now, we are taking the strength, expertise and compassion that defined our cancer care and extending it to complete healthcare for the entire family. Medicine has advanced extraordinarily, opening up possibilities for better diagnosis, treatment and outcomes, but it has also made healthcare increasingly specialised and complex. Our vision is to bring that expertise together, around the patient, so that the family does not have to navigate the complexity of healthcare alone. This is the next chapter, building on a legacy of trusted cancer care to create a future of complete care for every family.”

Ms. Suneeta Reddy, Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited highlighted the clinical advantages of a consolidated model. "Chronic and severe ailments often involve multi-organ management. Co-locating diverse specialities at Teynampet allows multi-disciplinary medical teams to collaborate seamlessly under one roof, improving patient outcomes and streamlining care delivery," she said.

Mr. Harshad Reddy, Director – Operations, Group Oncology & International, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, said, "The transition reflects the broader clinical role of the Teynampet hospital. Alongside its established oncology services, the campus now brings together cardiac sciences, neurosciences, gastrointestinal and pulmonary medicine, spine and orthopaedics, urology, critical care and internal medicine."
