PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission which was earlier known as Prime Minister Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana, is one of the largest pan-India scheme for strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the country. It is in addition to the National Health Mission. The scheme was announced in the Budget speech of Financial Year 2021-22 on 1st February last year with an outlay of 64 thousand 180 crore rupees over six years till the year 2025-26.
The objective of PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission is to fill critical gaps in public health infrastructure, especially in critical care facilities and primary care in both urban and rural areas. It will provide support for 17 thousand 788 rural Health and Wellness Centres in 10 High Focus States.
Further, over 11 thousand urban Health and Wellness Centres will be established in all the States. The Mission aims to produce robust outcomes in Public Health leapfrogging India to one of the most advanced countries in the world in terms of management of Public Health outbreaks. Under the scheme, Critical Care Hospital Blocks will be established in all districts with a population of more than 5 lakhs.
