“Trust in doctors made us travel this far,” says patient’s family.

Hyderabad, November 30th, 2025: A 30-year-old man from Karnataka was rushed to Aster Prime Hospital, Ameerpet, in a critical condition with severe abdominal pain, intense pain in both legs for three days, and extreme breathlessness. Immediate medical investigations revealed a dangerous blood clot that had travelled into the major blood vessel responsible for carrying blood from the body to the heart. Doctors confirmed that if the clot had moved any further, it could have proven fatal.

Sharing details of the case, Dr. Ranganatham Paidi, Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon and Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Aster Prime Hospitals, said:

“The patient had a habit of chewing gutka. Both his thighs were extremely stiff, and he presented with multiple complications. Upon evaluation, we diagnosed him with bilateral pulmonary embolism (PE) – a condition where blood clots block the arteries in the lungs. What made this case even more critical was that the clot was moving dangerously close to the heart. We immediately activated a multi-disciplinary emergency team."

“To save his life, we used Penumbra Lightning technology to remove the clot and placed an IVC filter to prevent further migration of clots. A pulmonary angiogram was also performed. This was a highly complex, high-risk procedure carried out under my guidance, with vascular surgeon Dr. Ganeshwar Rao leading the interventional treatment. Specialists from various departments participated to ensure rapid and precise care. Because treatment was given at the right time, the patient recovered steadily and is now out of danger.”

Speaking about the case, Dr. Ganeshwar Rao, Vascular Surgeon at Aster Prime, added: “This was a very complicated medical emergency. The blood clots had travelled dangerously close to the heart. Accurate diagnosis, the coordinated efforts of multiple specialists, and the availability of advanced vascular interventional technology helped us pull the patient back from the brink of death.”

Dr. Ranganatham Paidi further explained: "At Aster Prime, we strongly believe in coordinated, multi-department care for complex emergencies. Early diagnosis and seamless communication between various specialties are crucial in saving lives. This patient was brought from a remote village near Kalaburagi — nearly 230 km away. He was referred by a lawyer whom I had treated earlier. Such trust from patients plays a vital role, and this is why people from Karnataka and nearby regions frequently come to Aster Prime for complicated cases. It is their confidence in our expertise that brings them here.”

This case once again highlights Aster Prime Hospital’s commitment to providing world-class emergency care even in the most challenging situations. With highly experienced senior doctors and state-of-the-art technology, the hospital successfully handles complex and high-risk vascular and neurological emergencies with precision and excellence.
