Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in the Union Budget 2026–27, announced the launch of Biopharma Shakti, a strategic initiative aimed at establishing India as a global biopharmaceutical manufacturing and innovation hub. The programme is expected to unlock significant opportunities across the pharmaceutical value chain by promoting advanced, high-technology solutions, including next-generation cleanroom pods and by materially enhancing domestic manufacturing capabilities.
With a proposed outlay of ₹10,000 crore over the next five years, Biopharma Shakti is designed to accelerate research, drive capacity expansion, and improve speed-to-market, critical levers for scaling India’s biopharma ecosystem. The initiative is expected to act as a strong growth enabler for the pharmaceutical engineering and manufacturing sector, bringing increased visibility, investment momentum and technological advancement to a segment that has historically remained under-penetrated.
