Hyderabad, 8th September, 2025: CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills, widely recognized as a pioneer in advanced cardiac care in South India, has once again set a new benchmark by successfully performing a Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER) procedure using the indigenous MyClip (Meril) device on a critically ill 76-year-old patient, Mr. Ranga Rao (Name Changed). This marks the first such case at CARE Hospitals Group and is also among the rare TEER cases successfully performed in Hyderabad, reinforcing the hospital’s commitment to clinical innovation and excellence.

Mr. RR, a high-risk elderly patient, had a long and complex medical history. He was living with Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, COPD, Chronic Renal Disease, Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy, and Atrial Fibrillation. In 1998, he underwent Bare Metal Stent (BMS) placement for Coronary Artery Disease. In 2023, he suffered from Right Coronary Artery (RCA) Chronic Total Occlusion, which was successfully treated with PCI. Earlier this year, in 2025, he presented again with an acute myocardial infarction and required stenting of the Obtuse Marginal (OM) artery, Progressive left ventricular dysfunction (EF 35%), and severe Mitral Regurgitation (MR). Despite repeated hospitalizations, his condition worsened, and surgical options such as mitral valve replacement were deemed too high-risk given his frailty and comorbidities.

Under the expert leadership of Dr. V. Surya Prakasa Rao, Clinical Director & Head of Cardiology, CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills, the team performed a non-surgical TEER procedure using the indigenous MyClip (Meril) technology. Two clips were precisely delivered to stabilize the mitral valve under echocardiographic guidance, significantly reducing the mitral regurgitation.

Following the procedure, Mr. RR was mobilized the very next day and has since shown steady recovery, with notable improvement in symptoms and quality of life.

Dr. V. Surya Prakasa Rao said, “This was an extremely high-risk patient, and surgery was not an option. By using the indigenous MyClip technology for TEER, we were able to offer a minimally invasive, life-saving solution that improved his quality of life. This case is a milestone not only for CARE Hospitals but also for cardiac care in India.”

Mr. Biju Nair, Zonal Chief Operating Officer, CARE Hospitals, added, “The successful use of an indigenous MyClip device in such a complex case is a proud moment for us. It underscores CARE Hospitals’ vision of combining clinical expertise with innovation to bring world-class yet affordable healthcare to Indian patients. We will continue to champion path-breaking treatments that transform lives.”

For decades, CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills has been at the forefront of pioneering cardiac care, offering advanced treatments like high-risk PCI, structural heart interventions, cardiac electrophysiology solutions, and now indigenous TEER procedures. Its legacy of innovation, clinical expertise, and patient-centered outcomes continues to position it as a regional leader and a trusted destination for complex cardiac cases.
