▴ Chennai Hosts Asia’s Largest Interventional Complications Course in Cardiology
Over 300 cardiologists from India and across the globe participate in AICC 2.0 to address procedural challenges and improve patient outcomes.

Chennai, December 13, 2025: Asia Interventional Complications Course (AICC 2.0), in association with Promed Hospital, was held in Chennai as a two-day advanced academic program, reaffirming its position as Asia’s largest dedicated interventional complications course in cardiology. The course brought together over 300 interventional cardiologists, clinicians, fellows, and cath lab professionals from India and international centres to address complex procedural challenges and improve patient outcomes. Dr P. Senthil Kumar, IAS, Principal Health Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu Inaugurated the conference in the presence of Dr Arun Kalyanasundaram, Director, APCTO Club, Chief Cardiologist, Promed Hospital and Dr Spoorthi Arun, MD, Promed Hospital.

The program focused on advanced strategies for managing complications during coronary and structural heart interventions, including coronary perforation, acute vessel closure, hemodynamic collapse, and vascular access challenges. Designed as a highly practical and case-based learning platform, AICC 2.0 enabled participants to gain hands-on insights into managing real-world cath lab scenarios. Six complex total occlusion (CTO) percutaneous coronary interventions will be performed on patients from Australia, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Turkey, UK, and Italy, with the procedures transmitted live at the conference.

The faculty included Dr William Lombardi (USA) and Dr Masahisa Yamane (Japan) as International Course Directors, along with several eminent national and international experts, who shared their experience on managing the most challenging complications and building systems that allow operators to proceed with greater confidence during complex interventions.

Addressing the gathering, Dr P. Senthil Kumar, IAS, Principal Health Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu, emphasised the importance of continuous medical education and structured training platforms in equipping specialists to manage high-risk cardiac interventions. He noted that focused academic forums such as AICC play a vital role in strengthening clinical confidence, enhancing patient safety, and raising the overall standards of cardiovascular care.

In the two days of the conference, over 300 cardiologists from India and several other countries came together to engage in focused discussions on managing complications in interventional cardiology. This advanced, in-depth exploration is designed to help operators anticipate challenges and improve patient safety outcomes through dissemination of cutting-edge procedural expertise and shared clinical experience,” said Dr Arun Kalyanasundaram, Director, APCTO Club, Chief Cardiologist, Promed Hospital, and Organising Chairman of the AICC conference.

“As a dedicated forum that addresses all aspects of complications in interventional procedures, AICC brings together world-renowned faculty from the USA, Japan, Europe, the UK, and across Asia, making it a unique learning opportunity for cardiologists,” Dr Arun added.

Dr Spoorthi Arun, MD, Promed Hospital, said, “The aim of AICC is to ensure that cardiologists and cath lab teams are comfortable and confident while managing complications in high-risk patients with complex coronary or structural anatomy. The course bridges the gap between theory and real-life practice through case discussions, simulations, and practical demonstrations.”

AICC 2.0 was widely appreciated for its academic depth, global faculty, and strong emphasis on real-world learning, reinforcing Chennai’s position as a key hub for advanced cardiovascular education.
