No COVID-19 vaccination drive in Mumbai on 15 and 16 May, says BMC

BMC stops vaccination due to shortage

Mumbai's civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has informed that there will be no Covid-19 vaccination drive in the city today and tomorrow. Taking to twitter, the BMC has appealed to the citizens not to crowd the vaccination centres till further notice. Our Mumbai Correspondent reports that the decision was taken due to a shortage of vaccines.

On Wednesday, the inoculation drive for the age group between 18 and 44 years in Mumbai was suspended till further orders in the wake of a shortage of doses. The announcement followed the Maharashtra government’s decision to suspend inoculation for this category and divert the vaccine stock for those above 45 years age group.

The vaccination drive is being carried out at 247 centres in Mumbai. This includes 153 municipal centres, 20 government centres and 74 private centres. So far 28 lakh 17 thousand 425 vaccines have been administered. Of this, 26 lakh 30 thousand 178 have received Covishield doses and 1 lakh 87 thousand 247 have been administered with Covaxin.
