Doctors perform life-saving emergency surgery to help patient recover in record time.

Hyderabad, December 6th 2025: In a miraculous medical turnaround, Naveen Kumar, a construction worker who suffered a catastrophic fall from the third floor of an under-construction building, has made a full recovery after undergoing complex, life-saving surgery at Amor Hospitals. The 42-year-old was rushed on November 22nd after falling and being impaled by iron rods that pierced through the left side of his chest.

When brought to the hospital, two iron rods had to be extracted from his body. Naveen arrived unconscious with critically low blood pressure of 50/30 mmHg and oxygen saturation levels too low to be recorded. The trauma team faced a grave emergency, with an open chest wound, the lung and heart visible, massive blood loss estimated at 2–3 litres, and left lung was ruptured with massive hemothorax.

The patient was immediately placed on ventilator support, and rapid blood transfusion and emergency resuscitation were initiated. A CT trauma protocol confirmed extensive injury, following which he was rushed to the operation theatre.

During surgery, doctors performed an emergency thoracotomy. The left upper lobe of the lung, completely destroyed in the accident, had to be surgically removed. Naveen’s blood pressure dropped further during the procedure due to continuous blood loss, requiring sustained transfusions. With only one functional lung remaining, surgeons implemented lung-protective ventilation strategies. Throughout the critical phases, despite severe hypoxia, the medical team took meticulous measures to prevent injury to the brain and other vital organs.

Speaking about the case, Dr. Kishore B Reddy, Ortho Oncology Surgeon & Managing Director, Amor Hospitals said, “ This was among the most challenging trauma cases we have managed. Naveen’s injuries were life-threatening, and every minute was critical. It was the coordinated effort of our emergency, surgical, anaesthesia, and critical care teams that made his survival possible. His recovery is a testament to timely intervention and world-class trauma care. We are delighted to see him return to a normal life.”

In an extraordinary recovery, Naveen was weaned off ventilator support within 48 hours. Shortly thereafter, he was able to walk with assistance, and all surgical drains were removed. He was discharged on November 28th, fully conscious, coherent, and mobile without any external support. Naveen returned for review today and has been declared fully fit to resume daily activities.

Surgeons Dr. Kalyan and Dr. Poojitha; Emergency team comprising of Dr. Nandeep and Dr. Ashok; and Dr. Prathyusha from the Critical Care department; and Anaesthesia specialist Dr. Jagadeesh, played a critical role in saving the life of the patient. With this surgery, Amor Hospitals continues to reinforce its commitment to delivering advanced, multidisciplinary emergency and trauma care across the region.
