Handpickd Questions the Role of Science in Food with ‘Science-Less’ Newspaper Campaign

The Fresh Commerce brand turns a newspaper ad into a larger question about what happens when food is engineered to last longer.

Gurugram, 16th September 2026: Science has transformed everything from beauty to food, but what happens when the science designed to make food last longer takes away what makes it naturally good?

Handpickd, India’s first zero-inventory fresh produce platform, takes this question to print with its latest ‘Science-Less’ campaign in The Economic Times, challenging a food system built around making products last longer, and asking whether longer shelf life should come at the cost of freshness.

The campaign begins with a seemingly familiar thought: “The science of beauty.” Turn the page, and the thought takes an unexpected turn: “Science has achieved some great things. But it’s done something terrible as well. It’s made food dangerous.”

The creative builds its central argument around the unintended consequences of extending food’s shelf life: while science has transformed the way food is processed, preserved and distributed, the interventions designed to make it last longer can also move it further away from its natural state. Rather than treating longer shelf life as the ultimate measure of progress, Handpickd shifts the focus to what food should retain: its natural qualities, freshness and simplicity.

The following page brings this thought together through Handpickd’s ‘Science-Less’ proposition: “No science. No formulas. Nothing bad added, and nothing good taken away.”

Commenting on the campaign, Anant Goel, Founder & CEO, Handpickd, said, “We wanted to challenge an assumption that has become so normal that we rarely question it: that better food is food that lasts longer. ‘Science-Less’ is our way of asking people to look at what goes into their food and why. If we can build a system where food is sourced or prepared closer to when it is consumed, perhaps we don't need to engineer it for a shelf life it was never meant to have.”

The proposition extends directly into Handpickd’s zero-stock Fresh Commerce model. The platform aggregates orders overnight, sources directly from farms or prepares products to order, and delivers them within 24 hours of creation. Its fresh essentials range spans paneer, dahi, ghee, baked breads, raw honey, milled atta, pounded spices, fresh pastes and pressed oils, allowing the brand to apply the same approach beyond fresh produce and to everyday kitchen staples.

Through ‘Science-Less’, Handpickd is putting its core belief into a simple proposition: food doesn't need more intervention. It needs a better way to reach the consumer.
