Indore, 19th September, 2025 – HCG Cancer Centre, Indore, has successfully treated an 80-year-old patient, Mrs. Gayatri Bai Surma, who presented with postmenopausal bleeding and was later diagnosed with Stage I uterine cancer. Despite her advanced age, morbid obesity, hypertension, cardiac disease, and history of previous abdominal surgery, doctors at HCG Cancer Centre performed a complex Laparoscopic Radical Hysterectomy with lymph node dissection and omentectomy through a minimally invasive keyhole approach. She was admitted at HCG Cancer Centre on 30th July, where after thorough evaluation was conducted and the doctors found that the growth in her uterus was highly suspicious for cancer. She underwent an hour’s keyhole surgery called Laparoscopic Radical Hysterectomy on 31st July, 2025 where the uterus, nearby lymph nodes, and some abdominal tissue were removed to check if the disease had spread. A quick test during surgery confirmed cancer cells, but the final detailed report showed stage 1 uterine cancer without spread to surrounding tissues. Her recovery was very smooth, she was able to sit, stand, walk, and eat the same day, do her normal activities the next day, and was discharged on 4th August. The biggest advantage of the keyhole surgery approach, especially for patients who are older, obese, or have other health issues, is that it ensures a safe and complete surgery with minimal blood loss, less pain, and a much faster recovery compared to traditional open surgery. Dr. Renu Sharma, Specialist in Gynecologic Oncology, HCG Cancer Centre Indore, says, "Performing such a complex procedure laparoscopically on an 80 yrs old patient with multiple comorbidities was indeed challenging. However, advanced surgical techniques and careful perioperative management ensured a safe and complete surgery with minimal blood loss and a remarkably fast recovery. This case is a testimony to the effectiveness of minimally invasive gynecologic oncology surgeries." Western India Regional Business Head at HealthCare Global Enterprises (HCG) Mr. George Alex, adds "Our focus across all HCG Cancer Centres is to make advanced cancer care accessible and safe for patients, irrespective of age and comorbidities. The successful management of this case once again demonstrates HCG’s leadership in precision oncology and multidisciplinary care." Mr. Nitin Bamaniya, Chief Operating Officer, HCG Cancer Centre, Indore, commented: "At HCG Cancer Centre Indore, we are committed to providing advanced cancer care that combines clinical expertise with compassionate patient management. This case highlights how technology-driven, patient-centric care can significantly improve outcomes even in high-risk patients." This case proves the advantages of Laparoscopic Radical Hysterectomy surgery, particularly in elderly patients with multiple health risks. It offers a safe, minimally invasive alternative with faster recovery, less pain, and minimal blood loss compared to conventional open surgery.
