Encouraging Early Detection & Breaking The Silence Around Men’s Health.
Nashik, Sept 16: As September marks Prostate Cancer Awareness Month 2025, HCG Manavata Cancer Centre (HCGMCC) reaffirms its commitment to combating one of the most common cancers affecting men in India. Prostate cancer is the second leading cancer among Indian males, yet when detected early, it is highly treatable. The centre urges all men above 50 or earlier if there is a family history, to prioritize regular screenings and stay informed about symptoms. Prostate cancer begins in the prostate gland cells, where uncontrolled cell division leads to tumour formation. While some types grow slowly, others are aggressive and spread rapidly. Symptoms often include difficulty urinating, pelvic discomfort, frequent urges to urinate, blood in semen or urine, reduced urine stream, erectile dysfunction and unintentional weight loss. “Prostate cancer often progresses silently until it reaches an advanced stage. Through this campaign, we urge men, especially those above 50 or with a family history, to prioritize their health, get screened and be aware of early warning signs. Early detection through PSA testing and regular check-ups can make all the difference between a life saved and a life lost. We encourage men to break the silence around their health and take proactive steps towards screening,” says Prof Dr Raj Nagarkar, Chief of Surgical Oncology & Robotic Services and Managing Director - KIMS Manavata Hospitals, HCG Manavata Cancer Centre and Six Sigma, Nashik. Prostate cancer can be of varying types including Adenocarcinoma (most common), transitional cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and small cell prostate cancer. Its diagnosis includes screening via PSA blood tests, digital rectal exams, ultrasound, MRI and biopsy and could be treated through monitoring, surgery (prostatectomy), radiation therapy (external and brachytherapy), high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), cryoablation, hormone therapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy. “HCG Manavata Cancer Centre is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and a team of leading oncologists. We offer comprehensive prostate cancer care, from diagnosis to advanced treatment modalities and have performed over 100 robotic prostate cancer surgeries. Our emphasis is on personalized treatment plans tailored to the type and stage of the cancer, ensuring the best possible outcomes for patients. We combine advanced technology with compassionate care, be it robotic-assisted surgery for precision, hormone therapy to slow disease progression or immunotherapy to help the body fight cancer itself. Our goal is not only to treat but to empower men with knowledge and proactive choices about their health,” concludes Dr Nagarkar. About HCG Manavata Cancer Centre (HCGMCC): - Established in 2007 by Dr Raj Nagarkar, HCGMCC – Nashik is Central India's first NABH-accredited facility.
