Nashik, Oct 29: The fifth edition of the Pink Mela - a unique and vibrant event dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer, brought together entertainment and education for women in Nashik. Organized jointly by HCG Manavata Cancer Centre (HCGMCC) and the W.O.W. (Women of Wisdom) Group, the event was held earlier this month, at the HCG Manavata Cancer Centre, with acclaimed actress Sonali Kulkarni gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event is designed to break the silence and fear surrounding breast cancer by creating a festive and supportive environment. This year’s event saw enthusiastic participation from women across the city, who engaged in a variety of activities, from competitive games to informative sessions.

“Awareness is our strongest weapon in the fight against breast cancer. If detected in time, cancer can be overcome with medication and the risk to life can be avoided. Early detection increases the chances of survival by 80 per cent. Regular check-ups, maintaining a proper lifestyle and prioritizing mental health play a crucial role in improving outcomes,” says Prof Dr Raj Nagarkar, Chief of Surgical Oncology & Robotic Services and Managing Director - KIMS Manavata Hospitals, HCG Manavata Cancer Centre, and Six Sigma, Nashik.

Actress Sonali Kulkarni interacted warmly with the attendees, offering guidance and inspiration. Her presence added excitement and a heartfelt touch to the initiative, encouraging open conversations about women's health. The event was a hub of activity and creativity, featuring competitions such as the Pink Mission Competition, Pink Awareness Competition, Akash Kandil Competition, and Toran Competition. The winning participants were awarded prizes presented by Sonali Kulkarni. A dedicated shopping festival and exhibition stalls provided a platform for local women entrepreneurs to showcase their products, promoting economic empowerment alongside health awareness.

“Breast cancer is India's most prevalent cancer in women, representing nearly one-third of all female cancer cases. While risk rises with age, particularly after 50, a critical gap in awareness and screening often leads to late-stage detection. The Pink Mela initiative is our direct response to empower women with the knowledge and tools for prevention and early action,” concludes Dr Nagarkar.

Entertainment was at the heart of the Mela, with a lively line-up that included a comedy show, interactive games and a captivating dance performance, ensuring a joyful and uplifting experience for all attendees. The program was attended by esteemed doctors including Dr Raj Nagarkar, Dr Pranita Sanghavi, Mrs Prarthana Nagarkar along with Ashwini Nyaharkar – Founder of WOW Group and team.
